Marking Rubric

This page will serve as a resource to inform people of the things I look for in a work and what they mean, and why they are important.

Recommendation

My ultimate verdict on the game. Remember that these are made specifically based on the ability to play as a woman and how fulfilling that experience is. God of War might be great, but Kratos is a dude, so it would get a hard no. Bear in mind that a game not being recommended is not a quality judgement, just a judgement on it meeting a specific standard.

Content Warnings

This is where I’ll put any warnings about in game content that some people may find uncomfortable or offensive. They will be imperfect, and I strongly urge you to seek other sources before making a choice if you have triggers you are worried about seeing in game, but I will do my best here.

Do you play as a girl?

This one is obviously important, and is the emphasis of the entire blog. it will probably be very rarely answered with anything other than yes. This will also cover things like the ability to choose a gender, and whether that has any meaningful impact on gameplay or story.

Do the women drive the story?

This will be focused on the narrative role of the women in the story. If, for example, the player character is a woman, but the male secondary characters make all the relevant decisions and the driving motivation of the story, then they are the ones driving the story, not the women.

How many men are there?

A quick check, and unlikely to matter much in whether or not I give a game my recommendation. Just a brief summary of the presence of men and their role and impact. If a game has one woman in a sea of men, that would be a bad sign. Unless you really like being around hot guys, in which case chase your bliss.

What are the romance options?

A very important question, since forced romance can be distracting and uncomfortable. Will also cover whether any LGBT options are present, and how respectfully they are included. Personally, a forced het romance is a big issue, so take that into account when thinking about this category.

Is the game any good?

This is where I will give a brief review of the game. A hopefully spoiler free discussion of the story, and an overview of the gameplay. These aren’t full reviews, and you should absolutely check elsewhere for detailed thoughts on the game, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable just recommending a bad game just because you can play as a woman.
